Backpack Studios
Illustrations, logo and character design for Backpack Studios — a startup creating a children’s app focused on balancing the physical and digital worlds.

The hero image brings Emmo’s world to life in a more artistic 2D interpretation of the app’s low-poly style. The challenge was to visually merge 2D and 3D elements while keeping the polygonal feel. I solved this by combining Illustrator and Photoshop to create a painterly yet structured environment that integrates Joakim’s 3D character and pens into a cohesive visual world.

For Backpack Studios, I collaborated closely with owner Irma Arlert and 3D artist Joakim Orrbén to create Emmo, a cute and fun character who helps kids navigate the application, which is currently in development. Joakim and I worked together to bring Irma’s vision to life. Leveraging my strength in 2D design, I developed the character’s look and color palette, designed the text logo, and created a hero illustration of Emmo’s world.

Final 2D illustration and colour instructions for Emmo, to be translated into its final 3D form.

Figuring out how 2D eyes transform on a 3D mesh.

An early rough sketch of Emmo’s world, created in Illustrator. We later moved toward a more sketch-like style, and I primarily used Photoshop for the final illustration.
